Birllrothhaus, the most impressive venue

Billrothhaus stands as one of the most impressive venues, with a rich history that ties music and medicine together. Theodor Billroth, widely regarded as Austria’s most famous surgeon, was not only a pioneer in abdominal surgery and the first to perform a total laryngectomy in 1873, but also a talented musician.

Billroth was a close friend of composer Johannes Brahms, and many of Brahms’ premieres were held in this auditorium. Billroth himself designed the hall with ten doors on each side, allowing audience members to discreetly exit if they weren’t enjoying the performance, minimizing any disruption.

I was honored to be invited as a speaker at the 15th meeting of the German-Spanish Otorhinolaryngology Society (Wien, September 6-7, 2024), where I delivered two lectures: ‘The Technological Evolution of Transoral Laryngeal Cancer Surgery‘ and ‘The Role of Robotic Surgery in De-escalation Strategies for HPV-associated Oropharyngeal Cancer`.

Thank you, Prof. Gerd Rasp, for organizing such a wonderful meeting.
