Developed from CMR Surgical’s original modular Versius platform, Versius Plus was introduced as its second-generation system, incorporating enhanced visualisation, fluorescence imaging and a more extensive digital ecosystem. It received FDA 510(k) clearance for cholecystectomy in December 2025, marking an important step towards the US market.
On 12 October 2026, CMR Surgical announced a strategic alliance with Stryker, involving an approximately $400 million preferred equity investment and an exclusive agreement for Stryker to sell the Versius portfolio in the United States. The deal also gives Stryker an option to acquire CMR Surgical in the future, subject to the agreement’s terms.
Beyond the investment itself, this partnership brings together CMR’s experience in soft-tissue surgical robotics and Stryker’s commercial reach, potentially accelerating Versius Plus adoption. Notably, it also joins orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgical robotics under one strategic alliance: Stryker’s established experience with Mako and CMR Surgical’s Versius platform
