Night Shift

No, it is not what you first thought.

Night Shift is a “sleep positioner”. A device designed for positional therapy for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). In most of the patients with Sleep Apnea, the obstruction of the airway and the subsequent apnea happen in the supine position. Positional therapy is a proven treatment strategy for OSA. There are several devices based on position sensors. They are attached to the body and generate a stimulus that induces a positional shift when the supine position is identified.

As a difference from other devices, the NightShift can be used in two anatomical positions. There is a chest band and a neck strap. With the chest band it should be to the front and with the neck strap to the back. Therefore the device needs to be configured when changing the type of use (default is neck strap). This is done through software. The software con also be used a a registry.

The neck strap should be adjusted so it stays in place, although not too tight. It uses a magnet so there is no risk of choking. When the supine position is detected, it will start to vibrate with increasing intensity until the undesired position is abandoned.

For selected patients it can be an alternative to Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, but is it should always be used under medical supervision. Ask your doctor.
