Introduction
The AGIBOT Surgical System is a new Chinese multi-port robotic platform developed by AGIBOT Medical Technology, a company based in Suzhou. At first glance, its architecture is immediately familiar: a surgeon console, an independent vision cart, and a patient cart with four robotic arms. The overall design clearly follows the architecture established by the da Vinci Xi, reflecting a trend seen in several recent Chinese robotic systems (like Toumai, and others).
Company background
AGIBOT Medical Technology was founded in September 2020 in Suzhou, China, with the objective of developing a domestically produced robotic platform for minimally invasive surgery. The company has progressively built expertise in robotic manipulators, endoscopy, visualization systems, energy devices and AI-assisted surgery.
It should not be confused with AGIBOT Innovation (Shanghai), founded in February 2023, which has become one of China’s leading developers of general-purpose humanoid robots. That company has rapidly achieved industrial-scale production of embodied robots, positioning itself among the world’s largest humanoid robotics manufacturers.
Technical characteristics
The AGIBOT Surgical System belongs to the now well-established class of multi-port telemanipulated robotic systems.
From an engineering perspective, there are no radical departures from current multi-port platforms. The design philosophy prioritizes familiarity and compatibility with existing robotic surgical workflows rather than introducing a fundamentally new architecture.

J Granell
Robotic Surgeon
Prior to commencing my venture into robotic surgery, I had established a firm grounding as an oncologic surgeon. My experience encompassed a wide range of resection and reconstructive procedures, as well as proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques and endoscopic surgery. These acquired skills and expertise serve as fundamental pillars for achieving success in robotic surgery.
