Japan’s surgical robot arrives in Europe. Another important milestone in the rapidly evolving robotic surgery landscape.
Medicaroid Europe GmbH announced yesterday that the hinotori™ Surgical Robot System has received CE mark approval, opening the door to its clinical commercialization across Europe. The approval follows the company’s MDR submission in 2025 and represents the first European regulatory clearance for Japan’s home-grown surgical robotic platform.
For many surgeons, hinotori™ is not an entirely new name. Since 2022, the first non-prototype system outside Japan has been installed at Orsi Academy in Belgium, where it has been used for demonstration and training while awaiting regulatory approval. With CE marking now secured, we can expect the first clinical installations in European hospitals in the near future. The European robotic surgery ecosystem continues to grow. Alongside established platforms and other emerging competitors, hinotori™ adds yet another serious contender—bringing Japanese engineering into an increasingly diverse and competitive market.
We’ll be following its European rollout with interest, particularly to see when the platform expands beyond its current indications and whether it will eventually find a place in Head&Neck surgery.
