I started to study AI in year 1998. After getting my MD I enrolled in Computer Engineering at the University (I quit in the second year, becoming a surgeon was too demanding). I kept an eye on it. The road ahead is quite clear and obvious (it has been for many years). In the next close years (it is already happening) AI will absolutely turn up-side-down the way we understand medical practice.
Some years ago, there was a medical joke:
This is not a joke any more.
What about surgery?
Surgery is a wonderful mix of technical knowledge, expertise and dexterity. AI is already outperforming humans if the first two. Robotic surgery will soon be excelling surgeons in the third.
Of course, we need to cope with all this.
