Aleph Surgical is developing autonomous surgical robots based on what the company calls embodied AI.

Ryan McGuire and Dylan McGuire are brothers and the co-founders of Aleph. Both previously worked at Palantir Technologies, bringing an engineering and AI/defense background. Ryan worked as a technical lead on systems for the U.S. Department of Defense, with previous machine-learning research at UC Berkeley, while Dylan worked as a Forward Deployed Engineer at Palantir.

Aleph emerged publicly in 2026. In March, the company published its first research preview showing its system performing vascular anastomosis autonomously. In September 2026, Aleph announced a $7.5 million pre-seed financing round led by Andreessen Horowitz to accelerate development of its autonomous surgical platform. The company describes its objective as developing a new generation of surgical robots that can acquire, refine and transfer surgical skills across procedures.

Aleph has developed its own robotic platform. It is a purpose-built robotic embodiment designed specifically for autonomous control. The prototype shown consists of articulated robotic arms carrying microsurgical instruments. Aleph has not yet disclosed detailed specifications of the robotic architecture. However, the hardware is quite obvious, although it may not be the most important part of the system.

At this stage the platform remains a research system. The demonstrations reported by Aleph are important proof-of-concept experiments, but they should not be confused with clinical autonomy.

J Granell
Robotic Surgeon

Prior to commencing my venture into robotic surgery, I had established a firm grounding as an oncologic surgeon. My experience encompassed a wide range of resection and reconstructive procedures, as well as proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques and endoscopic surgery. These acquired skills and expertise serve as fundamental pillars for achieving success in robotic surgery.
